Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for approving Phase 1A of the Lagos Green Line Rail Project, describing the development as a major boost to transportation and economic growth in Lagos State.

In a statement issued on behalf of the Government and people of Lagos State, Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed profound gratitude to President Tinubu for his continued support towards infrastructural advancement and sustainable urban mobility in the state.

The governor described the approval as a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to transform Lagos into a globally competitive megacity with an efficient and integrated transport network.
According to him, the Green Line Rail Project will span approximately 68 kilometres from Marina to the Lekki Free Trade Zone, with about 17 stations strategically located across key commercial and residential hubs including Victoria Island, Ajah and other parts of the Lekki corridor.
Sanwo-Olu disclosed that the rail system is expected to serve about 500,000 passengers daily at inception, with the capacity to expand to nearly one million passengers over time.
He further explained that the Green Line would transport up to 35,000 passengers per hour in each direction, helping to significantly reduce travel time, ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity across the rapidly developing Lekki axis.
The governor noted that the project reflects the commitment of the Lagos State Government to improving the quality of life of residents through modern infrastructure, while also supporting commerce, tourism and investment opportunities.
He reiterated Lagos State’s readiness to work closely with the Federal Government to ensure the successful delivery of the project, adding that the Green Line Rail would further strengthen the state’s multi-modal transportation system and drive inclusive economic development.
