Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, alongside top government officials, dignitaries, and religious leaders, led Lagosians in celebrating the 25th edition of the Lagos State New Year Thanksgiving Service at Tafawa Balewa Square on Sunday. The annual event, which began under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during his tenure as governor of Lagos State, provided an opportunity for reflection, gratitude, and prayers for the state’s continued progress.
In his address, Governor Sanwo-Olu outlined key milestones achieved in 2024, including the successful launch of the first phase of the Red Line Rail project and the commencement of the second phase of the Blue Line Rail. He also highlighted the progress made on major initiatives such as the Lagos Food and Logistics Park and the development of a new children’s hospital.
“The strides we made last year in infrastructure, healthcare, and transportation reaffirm our commitment to building a greater Lagos,” Sanwo-Olu said. “The increasing influx of diaspora visitors further underscores our city’s potential as a global travel and tourism hub.”
The governor reiterated his administration’s dedication to housing, security, and improved infrastructure, assuring Lagosians that the state would remain a safe and thriving environment for all.
Looking ahead to 2025, Governor Sanwo-Olu revealed ambitious plans, including securing financing for transformative projects such as a new international airport and the expansion of the municipal rail system. Additionally, the implementation of the Lagos Electricity Law is set to provide residents with more reliable and efficient power supply.
“As we embrace the new year, we are determined to ensure that every Lagosian benefits from the opportunities within our state. Together, we will continue to build a vibrant, welcoming city where dreams are nurtured, and resilience and hard work are rewarded,” the governor concluded.
The event featured prayers for the state, its leaders, and residents, as well as inspiring musical performances by choirs and gospel artists. It served as a unifying moment for Lagosians to usher in the new year with hope, gratitude, and a renewed commitment to collective growth.
