Senator Binos Dauda Yaroe, who represents Adamawa South Zone in the National Assembly, has refused to join the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, insisting that the party has failed his people.
Dauda, who had earlier dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, maintained that switching to the APC would have been an act of bad faith.
He stated at an event that he has nothing to promote the APC-led administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu because of the federal government’s ongoing disregard for the Adamawa Southern zone.
Senator Yaroe, who recently joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stated that he would have thought about joining the APC if it would have ensured that his proposed Federal University of Education, Numan bill would receive presidential approval.
He claimed that after devoting years of legislative time and money to the law, the president’s rejection of it was a devastating blow to him and his people.
“If they had told me that joining APC would guarantee the passage of the Federal University of Education Numan bill, I would have risked my political future for the interest of my people,” Yaroe stated in Numan when announcing his intention to run for re-election to the Senate under ADC.
“However, the bill was rejected by the Senate despite all of our efforts. So how can I go to my folks and run an APC campaign? Almost nothing can be shown to them.”
He claimed that, aside from the university issue, southern Adamawa has continued to be one of Nigeria’s most neglected regions despite having nine local government units.
Additionally, he disclosed that he was one of fifteen senators who refused to join the APC.
“Representation in the Senate is a trust. He declared, “I cannot mislead the people who elected me in order to further my own political agenda.
