Reports surrounding the alleged death of popular Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo have thrown fans and the entertainment industry into mourning, as social media platforms continue to buzz with emotional reactions and tributes.

The celebrated actor, widely admired for his captivating performances in blockbuster movies such as Weekend Getaway and The Bling Lagosians, had been absent from social media and public appearances for several months, sparking concerns about his health among fans and colleagues.

According to reports making rounds online, the actor reportedly passed away on Tuesday after battling a prolonged illness. Some sources alleged that he had been receiving treatment in Lagos over complications linked to cancer before his reported death.

However, there has been no official confirmation from his family, management, or the Actors Guild of Nigeria as of the time of filing this report.

Concern about the actor’s wellbeing intensified after his last social media post in December 2024. His sudden disappearance from public view fueled widespread speculation throughout 2025, especially after rare videos surfaced showing the actor appearing noticeably slimmer.

During the period of speculation, fellow actor IK Ogbonna and producer Stanley Ontop had reassured fans that Alex Ekubo was healthy and merely taking a break from the pressures associated with fame and social media.

Despite those assurances, reports published by several Nigerian media outlets on May 12, 2026, reignited fears among fans, with tributes and condolence messages pouring in across Instagram, Facebook and X.

If eventually confirmed, the passing of Alex Ekubo would mark a painful loss for Nollywood, where he established himself as one of the industry’s most charismatic actors, earning admiration across Africa for his talent, versatility, and screen presence.

Fans and well-wishers continue to await official clarification regarding the reports.
