The Southern Nigeria Traditional Rulers Council has reiterated its unwavering commitment to unity among traditional institutions and pledged renewed support for Nigeria’s development and stability.

This position formed the highlight of a strategic council meeting held on April 23, 2026, in Port Harcourt, with proceedings formally declared open by the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara.
The high-level gathering drew prominent traditional rulers and state executive chairmen from across the South-South, South-East, and South-West geopolitical zones. Deliberations at the meeting centered on strengthening institutional cohesion, enhancing collaboration, and advancing the role of traditional leadership in fostering regional and national development.
Addressing members during the plenary session, the Chairman of the Council, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, expressed appreciation for the sustained commitment of council members. He reaffirmed the council’s apolitical stance, emphasizing its dedication to national unity and constructive engagement with government at all levels.
The revered monarch further disclosed that resolutions reached at the meeting would be formally transmitted to Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a demonstration of solidarity and readiness to support federal initiatives.
Key resolutions adopted at the meeting include the expansion of the council’s executive framework to ensure broader inclusion of state chairmen, improved communication mechanisms to enhance operational efficiency, and the consolidation of a unified front to strengthen the council’s influence in national discourse.
Traditional rulers from states such as Edo, Enugu, Imo, Akwa Ibom, Ogun, and Delta underscored the need for sustained peace, genuine reconciliation, and internal reforms within the council.
They collectively reaffirmed their support for the policies of the federal government, particularly those aimed at economic revitalization and national stability.
The meeting concluded on a strong note of consensus, with participants resolving to deepen institutional capacity, promote unity across Southern Nigeria, and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s progress.
