The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Anambra State, has taken decisive action by expelling Ms. Goddy-Mbakwe Chiamaka Precious, a student of the Department of History and International Studies, for physically assaulting a lecturer.

The expulsion was confirmed in an official statement issued by the university’s Registrar, Mr Victor Modebelu, who emphasized that the decision was made in line with the institution’s commitment to maintaining discipline and upholding academic integrity. According to the statement, the expulsion takes immediate effect.

The viral video of the female student Goddy Chiamaka Precious assaulting the Lecturer (Name Withheld) from the Department of Theatre and Film Studies circulated across the internet few days ago and generating reactions amongst Nigerians, the university with the decision has reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy for any form of violence or misconduct against academic staff. The management of UNIZIK further urged students to adhere strictly to the institution’s code of conduct and resolve grievances through appropriate channels.

The incident has sparked discussions on the importance of student discipline and the need for mutual respect between students and lecturers in tertiary institutions. Meanwhile, authorities at UNIZIK have assured that measures are in place to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
