The United States Africa Command, AFRICOM, in partnership with the Nigerian government, has carried out additional kinetic strikes against ISIS targets in northeastern Nigeria.
No US or Nigerian personnel were injured during the strikes, according to AFRICOM’s announcement on Monday, May 18. It also stated that intelligence verified the targets were ISIS terrorists.
Reiterating that the elimination of the terrorists reduces the group’s ability to plan actions that jeopardise the safety and security of the United States and its allies, it also stated that thorough assessments were still in progress.
AFRICOM reiterated its dedication to utilising specialised US capabilities. In order to help its allies combat common security concerns.
This comes after US President Donald Trump declared that American forces and the Nigerian Armed Forces conducted a joint military operation that killed Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, who was identified as the second-in-command of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or ISIS, globally.
