The Lagos State Police Command has identified Inspector Osumah Frank as the officer featured in a viral video making political and ethnic remarks about Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate Peter Obi and the Igbo community.
The command has also commenced disciplinary action against the officer in line with established regulations of the Nigeria Police Force.
Frank was seen in the video, while travelling in a public vehicle, making remarks about Obi’s 2027 presidential ambition and saying that an Igbo person could not become President of Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Friday, September 25, the command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the remarks were made in Frank’s personal capacity and did not represent the position, views or official disposition of the Lagos State Police Command or the Nigeria Police Force.
The command said appropriate disciplinary proceedings had commenced against the inspector over the remarks.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, reiterated that all police personnel were expected to maintain professionalism, civility, discipline and respect for members of the public.
Fatai also stressed that wearing the police uniform carried a responsibility to uphold the dignity and integrity of the Force.
The command said it would not condone conduct capable of bringing the police into disrepute or undermining public confidence in the Force.
