In a significant legal development, Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to Saleh Mamman, the former Minister of Power. The bail amount has been set at a staggering ₦10 billion, with stringent conditions attached.
During the hearing, Justice Omotosho specified that the bail terms require two sureties, each of whom must provide sureties valued at ₦10 billion. These sureties are mandated to own properties within Abuja with a minimum value of ₦750 million. Additionally, they must submit certified land documents and a three-year tax assessment to the court.
Further stipulations include the submission of bank statements and international passports by both the defendant and the sureties. In a flexible provision, the court has allowed Mamman the option to present a bank guarantee for the ₦10 billion amount, which would negate the need for sureties.
The case, which has drawn considerable public and media attention, has been adjourned until September 25, 2024, when the trial is set to commence. This decision marks a critical juncture in the legal proceedings surrounding the former minister.
