The Federal Government has approved a significant upward review of the fees for obtaining Nigerian passports, aimed at maintaining the quality of the travel document and ensuring its continued integrity.
Under the new directive, the cost for the 32-page passport booklet, which has a validity period of five years, will rise from its previous price of Thirty-five Thousand Naira (₦35,000.00) to Fifty Thousand Naira (₦50,000.00). This adjustment is intended to align the fees with global best practices while also catering to the increased demand for passport issuance.
Similarly, the fee for the 64-page passport booklet, valid for 10 years, has been increased from Seventy Thousand Naira (₦70,000.00) to One Hundred Thousand Naira (₦100,000.00). This booklet is typically preferred by frequent travelers and professionals who require more visa pages and longer validity.
Despite these increases, the government has clarified that the passport fees for Nigerians living in the diaspora will remain unchanged. This decision reflects a commitment to balancing the financial implications of the adjustment while supporting Nigerians abroad.
The revised fees are expected to facilitate the production of high-quality passports and improve service delivery across passport offices nationwide. The government remains committed to enhancing the overall efficiency of passport issuance processes to reduce delays and tackle issues of scarcity.
