The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi has selected Gani Adams, the leader of the Odua’ Peoples Congress (OPC) as the new Aare Ona Kakanfo.

Oba Lamidi made this confirmation during his 79th birthday celebration, as he made it known that he had selected Gani Adams amongst many others to hold the title.

The title of Aare Ona Kakanfo in Yoruba history is a title confirmed on the Supreme Military Leader of the army.

The title had been vacant since the death of the late business mogul and politician, Moshood Abiola who was the last Aare Ona Kakanfo.

Oba Lamidi said the title was being conferred on Gani Adams, because he is a focused individual with a total devotion towards protecting the Yoruba traditional religion.

He said “The OPC National Coordinator is a focused, committed and pragmatic Nigerian whose unrelented efforts and sense of devotion in the vanguard of making Yoruba traditional religion a reference point in global circles is inspiring, laudable and worthy of emulation,”
