Apostle Oloruntoba Oke, a renowned political icon in Nigeria, has passed away at the age of 65. He died on Sunday, February 9, in Lagos, after a brief illness.
Oke was a key figure in the South-West Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA) and served as the group’s National Treasurer. He was also a former Chairman of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government in Lagos State.
During his tenure as Executive Chairman, Oke made significant contributions to Lagos politics, including the relocation of the council secretariat to a newly built complex on College Road, which he named ‘Asiwaju Bola Tinubu Monumental Civic Centre’ ⁴. He was a devout Christian and an active member of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church.
Oke’s legacy is being remembered by many, including Senator Dayo Adeyeye, who described him as “a valuable figure, dedicated, loyal, tireless, and optimistic”. Pastor Samuel Opajobi, Chairman of the Ifako-Ijaiye Community Development Committee (CDC), also expressed his condolences, praising Oke’s commitment to governance and community development.
Apostle Oke is survived by his wife and children. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the family in due course.
May his soul rest in peace.
