Mavin Records, one of Nigeria’s leading music labels, is entering a new chapter of leadership as Don Jazzy, the renowned music producer and founder, officially appoints his cousin, Tega Oghenejobo, as the new President and Chief Operations Officer (COO) of the label. The appointment takes effect immediately, marking a notable transition in the administrative reins of the company.

Tega Oghenejobo, also known as TegaMavin, has been a foundational figure within Mavin Records, where he previously served as COO. Recognized for his exceptional strategic foresight, Tega has been instrumental in sealing significant artist endorsement deals and driving the company’s major business achievements. Noteworthy among these are Mavin’s early-stage investments by Kupanda Capital and the recent landmark majority acquisition by Universal Music Group, estimated at around $125 million with a performance-based clause that could potentially raise the deal to $200 million.

In his statement, Don Jazzy expressed his confidence in Tega’s ability to lead Mavin Records, highlighting his cousin’s passion and resilience. “People often commend me for my ability to spot and nurture superstars,” Don Jazzy stated. “But truthfully, the most genius decision I’ve made was recognizing Tega’s dedication and talent.” This transition signals Don Jazzy’s gradual move away from daily operations, allowing him to focus more on executive and boardroom roles while contributing to the label’s broader vision.

Tega’s journey with Mavin Records is a story of dedication and growth. His career in the music industry began during the MoHits era, where he honed his skills managing promotions for the brand in Warri. Later, as Mavin Records was launched, Tega joined the team in Lagos as a road manager for D’Prince. His work ethic and dedication saw him rise through the ranks, achieving the role of COO in 2019, where he oversaw the company’s operational growth and industry collaborations.

With the new leadership change, Mavin Records is expected to continue pushing boundaries in the music industry while nurturing Nigeria’s most promising talents. This transition exemplifies a legacy of servitude, mentorship, and visionary leadership—a testament to both Don Jazzy and Tega Oghenejobo’s commitment to the growth of African music on the global stage.
