Since the expiration of his lease at his Motherland Base Ikeja seems he hasn’t been able to reinvent/ recreate himself.
What seems to be left of him is the frequent stories of his death on social media. The cravings the youth and even his contemporaries have for him as seen in the recent Akindele’s Jennifer Premiere where he performed has refused to wane in a society where originality determines the longevity of one’s songs.
His songs continue to remain Evergreen in the ears of many of his fans while his name may gradually become forgotten in the doldrum of history.
He created a Brand of music with his voice ,his Faceless Identity and his Bata Dance steps. How can we forget his numerous romantic love songs that every radio station, disco houses frequently blasted.
When he sang Never Far Away I personally thought he won’t be far away but Omo Baba Mukomuko seems to have become a spirit that only appears when certain kind of duty calls. So his song Nothing for me was a Premonition of his long absence when we all failed to give him the answer he needed in his call and response. (hahaha) . How could one get over his hidden handsome face. Sometimes I reminisce on how his teeth sparkled and bulgy eyes rolled in the video of his song Feyin E . He was a professional musician who knows that every song must at least have a message or leave an impression on the listeners heart.
Lagbaja ‘s exposure to education showed in his musicianship. He was a master in his craft. He created a beautiful brand of music which took the entertainment industry by storm.
His appearance at Akindele’s event recently would have been an opportunity for him to relaunch his career while telling his fans reason for his absence but rather Lagbaja has made his switching on and off like Nepa a trademark not caring about the long cravings of his fan.
Abi Oruko Lo N Ro Ni…,, LAGBAJA (somebody, nobody, anybody and everybody)
